Variants, Captain Marvel

New comics!  But I’m also reviewing them for various reasons.

Variants 1-5

This Jessica Jones miniseries by Gail Simone and Phil Noto comes to an end.  It got two unsuccessful storylines: The Purple Man set a time bomb in Jessica’s head for ten years after he let her go; An evil Jessica Jones from another timeline tries to take her place.  A bunch of other Jessica Joneses get involved for reasons.  None of it leaves any kind of impression on me, and even Phil Noto can’t make a dent in my consciousness.

Captain Marvel 43-44

That’s it, I’m finally out after sitting on the fence for quite some time.  It’s a combination of really poor art from Sergio Davila (in hindsight, it looks like Lee Garbett did a lot more heavy lifting than I realized) and a sense of sameness with this arc.  It feels like each arc is spinning its wheels, going through the motions over and over again.  Which is really what all comics do at the end of the day, but it’s egregiously so this time around.

That's a very lumpy Cyclops.

He's not looking much better here.

Thanks for some pretty good arcs, Kelly Thompson!
