New comics!
Gotham City: Year One 3
The film noir continues. Tom King and Phil Hester have a fun thing going here. I’m not positive, but it’s possible that Slam Bradley’s mother is African American?
Sandman 3-5
The Hellblazer issue. I primarily remember this issue for all of the dream/Sandman-related song quotes and the horrifying condition of Rachel, Constantine’s ex-girlfriend, hopelessly addicted to the drug-like qualities of Morpheus’ sand.
Grim narration. |
Grimmer visual... |
Then there’s Hell issue. This was the first mindblowing issue of Sandman when I read it. The duel between Morpheus and Choronzon was cool enough that I ripped it off for a D&D campaign that I DM’d. But the lasting moment from issue four is the Sandman’s retort to Lucifer. It may have lost a little of its luster to these older, more jaded eyes, but it still hits hard.
So good. |
As explained later, Dream is a total dick. |
Issue five is pure setup for the classic issue six. Doctor Destiny reunites with his ruby (RIP Rosemary) and Morpheus meets up with the JLA in his last editorially-mandated crossover with the proper DC universe.
