Punisher

Punisher 1-18

Getting to the good stuff.

Things start small and simple with the Micro arc.  Frank’s old…friend(?) returns to recruit him for the CIA.  Frank understandably tells him to fuck off (literally) and shoots him in the head for his troubles.  Nicky Cavella makes his debut and stirs up some trouble, but nothing compared to what he’s going to do a few arcs from now.  Agent Kathryn O’Brien shows up for the first time as well, and makes her horny feelings for Frank quite clear.  A fine start, but not as awesome as future stories will be.

It’s certainly better than “Kitchen Irish,” where four groups of Irish terrorists tear up Hell’s Kitchen while searching for a MacGuffin worth ten million dollars.  Definitely one of the weaker stories in this series.

It gets really good with “Mother Russia.”  Frank gets a chance to show both his badass nature:

Badass, but I can't help but think of...

And you know Frank would have stayed behind with no hesitation if it were him.

His ultimate compliment?

And his heart of gold, a trope that can be extremely satisfying to see if done right.  Garth Ennis does it right.
