Casey WildCATs

Wildcats Version 3.0 10-18

Things continue to rock on the business side as Halo expands into car batteries, cars, computers, and mass media.  Spartan is clearly heading somewhere with this, and the US government starts to take notice as their interests (oil, Detroit cars, etc) start screaming bloody murder.  So fun to read.

Wax takes a turn for the worse when he forces his boss to commit suicide, then takes his place by hypnotizing all of his co-workers.  Pretty dark, didn’t think Joe Casey would take it there.

After a disastrous audition to become the new Grifter, Dolby finds his true calling as Halo CFO.  Good for him!

As I’ve proceeded through this project, I’ve discovered that a sure sign of a great comic is one where I’m not looking ahead to see how many more I have to read to finish the title.  Up until this point, I’ve just been grabbing the next issue and plowing through to the next.  This is great stuff.

Nguyen continues to bring a sweet, distinctive look to this book.

Wildcats Version 3.0 19-24

And this is where things fall off of a cliff.  Dustin Nguyen left two issues ago, but the strength of the writing carried it a little further.  But then Casey goes into the Coda war, a pointless six-issue arc where Zealot returns to kill more Coda, gets captured, and Grifter gathers a team to rescue her.  It’s entirely secondary to the main plot, contributes nothing of interest or value, and is a most disappointing end to this prematurely cancelled series.

I’ll never know how Spartan’s master plan turns out, and it makes me super sad.  One of the more tragic cancellations I’ve come across.
