Ultimate Power 1-9
Let’s recap: Reed Richards sends a probe to the new Supreme Power universe in an attempt to find a cure for Ben. This triggers an alien invasion that sends the Squadron back to the Ultimate universe to arrest Reed. (After a fight.) All the Ultimate heroes chase them in a rescue mission. The ensuing fight lasts for five issues as it’s revealed that Fury enlisted Doom to piggyback off of Reed’s probe, the true cause of the invasion. Only this Doom turns out to be a Doombot, and it’s the Squadron’s Emil Burbank who was the real instigator. Wanda somehow splits the Squadron into their new and original incarnations, which starts a three-way fight. Then Fury introduces the Hulk into the mix to force everyone to work together. At the end of the day, Fury’s arrested and Zarda joins the Ultimates. Oh, and a Skrull makes an appearance for no real reason. It’s a huge, messy ordeal, and it’s hard to believe that it took the combined efforts of Brian Michael Bendis, JM Straczynski, and Jeph Loeb to write this thing.
Maybe this would have been better with a different artist, but Greg Land really isn’t suited for this kind of superhero comic.
Sigh. It's so hard to take Land seriously. |
Damn, that's cold, Fury. Love it. |
I wonder what photo reference Land got that splits pose from. |
