Superman

Superman 204-215

Brian Azzarello and Jim Lee.  If it weren’t for Lee’s art, these issues would never have made it into my collection, let alone stuck around.  Azzarello’s never really clicked for me on an emotional level.  His strongest issues have relied on intriguing plots (100 Bullets, Hellblazer), and these are a complete mess instead.  There’s an ongoing bit with a priest that takes a weird turn when he gets physically augmented, then dies with an anticlimactic whimper.  The Phantom Zone utopia makes no sense, the villains have generic designs and motivations.  I’m still not sure how Wonder Woman knew what was going on.  And what was with that elemental-summoning woman?  None of it fits together into anything, and it’s not like the pieces make sense on their own either.

It is beautiful to look at, though.

Heh, Rushmore Golem is pretty cool

Love that cape.
