New comics!
GI Joe 17-21
Okay, as fun as these are to read, this GI Joe team is completely incompetent. I don’t think they’ve successfully completed a mission in twelve issues, and everything’s pretty much been a clusterfuck for them. Everyone on Flint’s squad (including Flint) behaves as if they’re winging their way through everything. And this is supposed to be America’s elite military force…
Antonio Fuso doing his best Frank Miller homage... |
Ragnarok 1-12
It’s fun to see Walt Simonson take on Thor again, even if it’s not the Marvel version. He’s taken the thunder god and placed him centuries after a Ragnarok where he wasn’t there to fight the World Serpent.
It took me a little while to figure it out, but this series feels a ton like Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo - An uber-competent hero wandering the land, moving from village to village, adventure to adventure. And like Usagi, as fun as the comic is from moment to moment, it’s ultimately not very memorable. At least in the meantime, Simonson draws an amazing action comic.
Great sequence. |
They know not to mess with Thor. |
The whole of issue 8 is a magnificent fight scene. |
I love how Mjolnir flat out blows heads off. |

Ragnarok: Breaking of Helheim 1-6
More of the same, but for some reason Thor’s journey to Helheim isn’t as captivating as the previous arc. Perhaps I’m missing the dynamic that the father/daughter duo brings to the mix. Perhaps it’s the constant cutaways to the conspiring coven of evil that always feel like a waste of page.
Hah, seems like I wasn't the only one who noticed the similarities. |

Seven Swords 1
The concept of seven legendary fictional swordsmen teaming up for adventures sounds really cool, but there’s nothing here that elevates it above one-and-done.

This Mortal Coil
My friend spent years working on this webcomic, and published this collection upon its completion. I’m super proud of this accomplishment of his, I can’t imagine the time, effort, and imagination he put into this. Kudos to you, Glenn Song!
