Fade From Grace, Giant Days

Fade From Grace 1-5

I’ve liked this story ever since I first read it in 2005.  Written by Gabriel Benson, drawn by Jeff Amano, this is a simple tale of a couple in love, what happens when one of them becomes a superhero, and the sacrifice one of them makes as a result.

Amano’s art is minimalist, almost to the point of amateurism, but there’s clear artistic skill behind it and it’s perfect for this comic.  There’s no irony in the romance, and it comes across as pure and brilliant.  It gives the ending an optimism and joy, a “smiling through the tears” kind of feeling that works despite all of the cynicism in today’s world.

Well done.

Every word is cliched, but they're so beautiful in context.

Giant Days 1-4

Meh.  I first read this almost two years ago, and it remains as so-so as I remember.  I don’t get the hype for this comic, and that’s okay.  Cutting.

This is so so so true.

Between this, Destiny, NY, and Stylish Vittles, maybe the college experience genre just doesn’t do it for me anymore.  That makes me sad.
