Bendis Avengers

Avengers 12.1

Finishing the rest of the Brian Michael Bendis Avengers run.  (I’d been reading the previous trades whenever I had a plane trip somewhere.  Those ended over three years ago, so it’s been a while.  Four trades to go.)

This issue gives the unnecessary backstory for how Ultron returned to Earth (apparently he’d left) to set up Age of Ultron.

Avengers 13-17

The Fear Itself tie-in issues.  These are so much better than the main event issues at conveying the sheer destruction and severity of Sin’s attack.  Bendis does a great job of using the talking heads device to accentuate the drama and heroism of the Avengers.

Heh.

Earnest Cap can be really sweet.

Avengers 18-24

I’m so sick of Norman Osborn.  He’s a victim of good writing; He’s too effective at being an annoying, smug asshole who always manages to weasel his way into positions of power.  I hate bullies and I hate him.  Plus, between Daniel Acuna and Renato Guedes, the art takes a horrible plummet in quality from John Romita Jr and Chris Bachalo in the previous arc.

This would be so much funnier with a more capable artist.

Just...no.

Credit to Acuna, this is a sweet cover.

Nice glowy eyes.

Heh.

This was well before Trump.

Avengers Assemble: An Oral History of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes

No idea what possessed Bendis to do an oral history of the first two hundred issues of Avengers.  I skimmed through this, it’s just way too much text about a period of time that I’m only kind of interested in.
