New comics

Still catching up on new comics!

Action Comics 1061

I was tempted to buy this because Jason Aaron always brings the possibility of greatness with him wherever he goes.  But it only took one word to keep me away: “Bizarro.”  Hate the guy.  But a glowing review from iFanboy convinced me to give it a try, and I must say that I’m around for at least a few more issues.  Aaron comes up with a few brilliant twists that sell me on his take on one of the worst comic characters ever: As Superman’s opposite, Bizarro has an amazing affinity for magic.  And even better, he uses this talent to cast a spell a la Zatanna that makes him speak normally.  Game changer.  Plus, John Timms is an excellent artist.

Somna 2

Love Tula Lotay’s art.

Fantastic Four 15-17

Ryan North seems to have an endless stream of original ideas.  His creativity is a perfect match for this title.  If only he had a comparable artist to match his talents.

Wonder Woman 5

A fine concept where Diana takes on her many proteges in 1-on-1 competition.  I don’t buy that she’s got any talent in fighting games, but whatever.  It’s all setup for a delightful reveal that shouldn’t have surprised me but totally did.  Tom King’s parallel story has the bad guys gathering their gang, unintentionally mirroring what’s going on over on his Penguin title.

Trinity 1

What a waste of money.  Six bucks for a reprinting of stories that I’ve already purchased over the last six months in Wonder Woman, with a throwaway Tom King story tossed in there.  So angry at DC for this.
